At Level Up! Life Skills, Adventurers can choose from two unique paths. Both programs use games to build confidence, coping strategies, and resilience — but each works a little differently depending on your child’s needs.

Programs

  • Format: 5-session small-group program with 3–5 Adventurers

  • Zero Session: Orientation session (30–60 minutes) covering rules, group goals, and character creation

  • Adventure Sessions: Four weekly sessions, each lasting 1 hour, where adventurers face challenges, solve problems, and practice teamwork in a guided RPG

  • Focus: Teamwork, communication, and resilience

  • Best For: Kids who learn and grow through peer-to-peer social interaction and cooperative play

⚔️Group Adventures

  • Format: 60-minute, one-to-one sessions with the facilitator

  • Focus: Flexible goals such as building confidence, communication, coping strategies, or practicing individual skills

  • Structure: Runs as a minimum 4-week commitment (1 session per week)

  • First Session: The main focus of the first session is on building rapport and trust between the Adventurer and facilitator. This session also goes over game rules and expectations. We may not get into the full adventure yet — the priority is making sure your child feels comfortable and ready.

  • Best For: Kids who thrive with personalized, one-to-one attention and benefit from flexible scheduling

🗡️Solo Adventures

How It Works

✍️Pre-Adventure (Parents)

  • Fill out the Join The Adventure Form to reserve your Adventurer’s spot.

  • Review and complete the Consent & Liability Agreement.

  • Send the completed waiver to LevelUpGamingforGrowth@gmail.com

We’ll review your completed documents and contact you to confirm scheduling, discuss options, and answer any of your questions you might have.

Before your Adventurer’s first session, please complete these steps:

  • The main focus of this first session is building rapport and trust to make sure your Adventurer feels comfortable and ready before the adventure begins. We will also set goals, review game rules and create a character

  • Weekly 60-minute one-to-one sessions with the facilitator. Each session blends personalized story-driven play with reflection time, where the adventurer celebrates achievements and highlights growth in confidence, coping, and communication.

  • After the four-session arc has concluded, the facilitator follows up via phone or email to share your Adventurer’s progress and discuss what comes next — continue with Solo Adventures, join a Group Adventure, or take a break.

🗡️Solo Adventure

  • Meet the facilitator, set group goals and rules, and create characters together.

  • Weekly 1-hour group (3–5 kids) role-playing sessions. Each session blends social skills development, teamwork and problem-solving play and includes end-of-session reflection, where adventurers celebrate victories, share peer shout-outs, and highlight their growth.

  • Step 3 — After the four adventure sessions have concluded, the facilitator follows up via phone or email to share your child’s progress and discuss what comes next — continue with the same group (if available), join a new one, switch to Solo Adventures, or take a break.

Grade & Age Band Cohorts

A table outlining various youth development cohorts categorized by name, grade levels, approximate age, and focus areas. The cohorts include Explorers, Pathfinders, Champions, and Legends, each targeting different age groups and developmental goals.

To help Adventurers feel comfortable and promote positive participation during Group Adventures, Level Up! forms groups based on grade/Age-based cohorts.

Cohort Advantages

  • Adventurers are grouped by grade/age to keep activities fun & fair.

  • Similar developmental stages → smoother group interactions.

  • Easier to build friendships with peers close in age.

  • Every Adventurer is unique.

  • Age/grade isn’t always the full story.

  • We collaborate with families to place each Adventurer where they’ll feel welcomed, supported, and confident.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Level Up! Life Skills is an enrichment program that helps kids and teens build social, emotional, and problem-solving skills through role-playing games, video games, and tabletop adventures. Using imagination and play, adventurers practice teamwork, communication, resilience, and coping strategies in a fun, supportive setting.

Note: Level UP! is an enrichment program, not therapy or counseling.

  • Most sessions use Role Playing games (RPGs), where adventurers create characters and work together to solve challenges in an interactive story.

If families prefer not to use an RPG, the facilitator can work with parents ahead of time to provide alternative Solo Adventures, such as:

    • Tabletop board games (chess, checkers, cooperative or strategy games)

    • Video games (like Minecraft, with No Man’s Sky coming soon)

This flexibility ensures every child has an engaging way to build resilience, problem solving, and social skills — all while having fun.

  • A role-playing game (RPG) is a cooperative storytelling game where players take on characters in a fantasy (or other genre) setting and work together to solve challenges, go on adventures, and make decisions as a team. Think of it like an interactive story or board game — but instead of just moving pieces, kids get to imagine, act, and create the adventure together.

  • When kids play RPGs, they practice:

    • Resilience — learning to bounce back when things don’t go as planned.

    • Problem Solving — finding creative solutions to puzzles and challenges.

    • Social Skills — listening, sharing ideas, and working as a team to succeed.

It’s fun and engaging, while teaching the same real-life skills kids use in school, friendships, and everyday life.

    • Zero Session: This is a single, 30-60 minute session scheduled before the Adventure Sessions begin. Introduces group goals, rules, expectations, character creation, and Q&A.

    • Adventure Sessions (weekly): Adventurers face challenges, solve problems, and work as a team in a guided role-playing game.

    • Closing Discussion: At the end of each session, adventurers reflect on what they learned, celebrate victories, and share highlights from their peers’ choices and teamwork.

  • After the four-session arc has concluded, the facilitator follows up via phone or email to share your Adventurer’s progress and discuss what comes next — Adventurers may:

    • Continue with the same group (if available) to keep building on their shared story,

    • Join a new adventuring group — carrying over the same character, progress, and achievements into fresh adventures with new peers, or creating a brand-new character for a fresh start,

    • Play Solo Adventures — either as a bridge while waiting for the next group, or as a one-on-one story with the facilitator, or

    • Take a break — completing an adventure cycle and returning at another time.

This flexible structure ensures every child’s journey feels continuous, supported, and rewarding — whether they stick with a beloved hero or set out as someone new.

  • Absolutely! Solo Adventures can be scheduled between Group Adventures or while waiting for a group to form and begin. Adventurers can even use the same character across both types of adventures, keeping their story and progress connected.

  • Cohorts are grouped to balance comfort, maturity, and developmental stage:

    • Grades 1–3

    • Grades 4–5

    • Grades 6–8

    • Grades 9–12

Every child is unique, and age ranges don’t always match developmental needs. We work closely with parents to ensure each adventurer is placed in the cohort where they will feel comfortable, encouraged, and supported.
Every child has a place at the table.

  • Because each 5-Session Group Adventure is limited to 3–5 Adventurers, every absence impacts the group’s progress and dynamic. For this reason, we are not able to offer refunds or makeup sessions for missed group classes. Your child is always welcome to rejoin the group at the next scheduled session and continue their adventure.

For Solo Adventures, if your adventurer needs to miss a session, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule. In the event of an unforeseen emergency, we will do our best to work with you to find a solution.

We appreciate your understanding as we strive to keep the adventure fair, supportive, and fun for every player.

  • Adventurers will need:

    • A device with internet access

    • A webcam and microphone

    • Access to platforms such as Zoom, Roll20, Minecraft, or Board Game Arena (specific platforms depend on the group)

  • No — sessions are for the adventurers. However, parents are welcome to reach out to us outside of the sessions at LevelUpGamingforGrowth@gmail.com

  • No. Level UP! is an enrichment program that uses games to build real-world skills in a fun and imaginative way. It is not therapy or counseling, and it should not be considered a substitute for professional mental health treatment.

About the Facilitator

Person in a kayak on a river with a small dog, surrounded by green trees and overcast sky.

Hi, I’m Mark!

I’ve been an educator since 2005, working with students from kindergarten through high school as a School Guidance Counselor and School Psychologist. Since 2019, I’ve also supported kids online as a school behavior and mental health teletherapist, helping them build resilience, friendships, and coping skills. I hold a Master’s in Counseling and Guidance, along with PPS credentials in both School Counseling/Guidance and School Psychology.

I’m also a lifelong gamer and adventurer — from board games and video games to hiking, camping, kayaking, and exploring the outdoors. These days, I travel the country full-time in an RV with my wife and our dog, always seeking out new places and experiences.

At Level UP! Life Skills, I combine my background in education and mental health with my love of games and exploration to create safe, welcoming spaces where kids feel supported, included, and ready to grow.
